Bank of Ceylon (BOC) has announced the appointment of Sameera Liyanage as the new Chief Marketing Officer. Liyanage, a Chartered Marketer with over 22 years of experience within the public sector and in top-rated private institutions, considered a marketing expert industry-wide, was recently appointed to the post.

In addition to completing a stint of six years with SDB bank in the capacity of Head of Marketing and Retail Banking, he had previously held manager-level marketing positions at Pan Asia Bank, National Savings Bank, and Seylan Merchant Bank.

He is held in high regard across the banking industry, for the market launch of numerous loan and savings products that have become staple banking products since.

Liyanage was responsible for introducing the retired government pensioner loan scheme to local banking for the first time, with the intent of reintegrating this vital population into society and the economy while ensuring their continued well-being.

Similarly, he initiated special banking products for war heroes as well as their immediate dependents in sustaining their lives and enabling financial stability, in the event they go missing, they lose their lives in battle, or they become disabled.

During his period with SDB bank, the bank received the distinction of being recognised for the first time in the top 50 of global brand valuation consultancy Brand Finance’s ‘Sri Lanka’s 100 most valuable brands’ annual list. He has represented the Sri Lanka at the UNESCO Sri Lanka Summit in Paris in 2003.

Liyanage has also functioned as the General Manager of the Higher Education and Carrier Guidance exhibition conducted by the Future Minds Organisation. He is an old boy of Nalanda College, Colombo and the President of the Old Boys’ Association of the College.
