Bond market activity moderates

The fresh trading week commenced on a dull note yesterday with limited activity witnessed. Only the maturities of 01.05.24, 01.07.25 and 01.05.27 were traded at levels of 27.00% each and 23.20% respectively.

The total secondary market Treasury bond/bill transacted volume for 16 June 2023 was Rs. 33.71 billion.

In money markets, the Domestic Operations Department (DOD) of Central Bank injected liquidity by way of overnight and seven-day reverse repo auctions for a total volume of Rs. 94.50 billion at weighted average rates of 13.46% and 14.00% respectively while an amount of Rs. 81.99 billion was withdrawn from Central Banks SLFR (Standard Lending Facility Rate) of 14.00%. The weighted average rate on overnight call money was registered at 13.91% while No transactions were reported on overnight repo.

Forex Market

In the Forex market, the USD/LKR rate on spot contracts were seen closing the day at Rs. 306.00/307.00 yesterday against its previous day’s closing level of Rs. 304.00/306.00, subsequent to trading within the range of Rs. 305.00 to Rs. 306.00.

The total USD/LKR traded volume for 16 June was $ 87.79 million.
