Bond market activity remains dull

The activity in the secondary bond market remained dull yesterday as a majority of market participants opted to be on the sidelines. Limited trades were witnessed on the maturities of 01.05.24 and 15.05.26 at levels of 31.10% and 28.78% to 28.80% respectively.

The total secondary market Treasury bond/bill transacted volume for 25 January was Rs. 69.95 billion.   

In money markets, the weighted average rates on overnight call money and repo stood at 15.36% and 15.50% respectively as the net liquidity deficit in the system stood at Rs. 91.49 billion yesterday. An amount of Rs. 71.28 billion was deposited with Central Banks at its SDFR facility (Standard Deposit Facility Rate) of 14.50% against Rs. 162.77 billion being withdrawn from Central Banks SLFR facility (Standard Lending Facility Rate) of 15.50%.

 

Forex Market 

In the Forex market, the middle rate for USD/LKR spot contracts was registered at Rs. 362.14 yesterday against its previous day’s closing level of Rs. 362.16.

The total USD/LKR traded volume for 25 January was $ 33.75 million.
