Bond market turns bullish

News regarding IMF’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) to Sri Lanka reflected positively in the secondary bond market, with yields of the liquid maturities consisting of 01.07.25, 15.05.26 and two 2027’s (i.e., 01.05.27 & 15.09.27) decreasing to intraday lows of 31.85%, 29.15%, 28.65% and 28.85% respectively, when compared against the previous day’s closing levels of 32.20/30, 29.75/85 and 29.15/20.

The total secondary market Treasury bond/bill transacted volume for 17th February 2023 was Rs. 14.75 billion.   

In money markets, the weighted average rates of overnight call money and REPOs was at 15.50% each with the overnight net liquidity deficit standing at Rs. 179.66 billion.

 

Forex Market 

In the Forex market, the middle rate for USD/LKR spot contracts remained steady for the fifth consecutive day at Rs. 361.92.

The total USD/LKR traded volume for 17th February was $ 115.25 million.
