CFA Society Sri Lanka and Deloitte collaborate to offer a course on ‘Mergers and Acquisitions Essentials’

CFA Society Sri Lanka, in partnership with Deloitte Sri Lanka and Maldives, has announced a specialised course, “From Concepts to Closing: Mergers and Acquisitions Essentials,” to be held on Thursday, 30 January 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Taj Samudra, Colombo.

This program is tailored to provide professionals with a foundational understanding of the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) process. It will focus on the rationale behind M&A, the structured life cycle of a deal, its critical components, and the legal frameworks governing such agreements. “By the end of the course, participants will gain the essential knowledge and skills required to navigate complex transactions effectively,” said a spokesperson from CFA Society Sri Lanka.

The course outline emphasises the core aspects of the M&A process, beginning with the strategic rationale for M&A and an introduction to the M&A lifecycle. Key topics include financial and tax due diligence, with a focus on critical technical aspects and fair value considerations. The program will also delve into the legal framework, covering sales and purchase agreements, conditions precedent (CPs), representations and warranties, financial close, and settlement mechanisms. To provide a practical perspective, the course includes a case study of a real-world transaction, allowing participants to apply their learning.

A distinguished panel of facilitators will lead the course, including: Deloitte Sri Lanka and Maldives Partner – Transaction Services Ravidu Gunasekera, Partner – Head of Tax Charmaine Tillekeratne, Sudath Perera Associates Partner – Head of Corporate and Commercial Law Dushyantha Perera, and Deloitte India Partner – Strategy, Risk and Transactions Gaurav Khanna. “This course is an exceptional opportunity for professionals to deepen their understanding of the M&A process.
