CFA Society Sri Lanka (CFASSL), in collaboration with the Department of Financial Management at the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Jaffna announces the Undergraduate Research Symposium (URS) 2024. 

Scheduled to take place on 13 September, this prestigious event is set to highlight the innovative research and insights of Sri Lanka’s brightest undergraduate students in finance and related fields.

The URS 2024 is dedicated to fostering an environment of academic excellence and global relevance. This year’s theme, “Investing in Tomorrow – Exploring Emerging Trends in Finance,” aims to bring together insightful students destined to be the future leaders in finance, providing them a platform to present their ground-breaking research to a panel of esteemed academics and industry professionals with global exposure.

The symposium will feature a variety of tracks, including Behavioural Finance, Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance and Business Ethics, Digital Finance, Economics, Financial Markets and Institutions, Business Management, and Entrepreneurship. The primary objective is to offer a platform for students to present their fresh insights in finance, fostering an environment that encourages the pursuit of global excellence.

There will be two distinguished keynote speakers: CFA Society Sri Lanka President and Analytical Instruments Ltd. (AIPL) Group Chief Financial Officer Aruna Perera, CFA. Aruna brings over two decades of experience in Financial Analytics, Corporate Finance, and Valuation Management.

University of Colombo Professor of Finance, Prof. Shantharuby Buvanendra, with extensive experience in research, teaching, and finance education, Professor Buvanendra’s work spans across Capital Structure, Corporate Governance, Behavioural Finance, Financial Wellbeing, and Entrepreneurship.

To encourage young researchers, the three best research papers will be selected from the accepted abstracts, and the winners will receive special recognition.

The symposium is open to undergraduate students in the fields of finance, accounting, economics,

entrepreneurship, and business management. In an effort to promote inclusivity and participation, registration is free of charge.
