The CFA Society Sri Lanka will be hosting a webinar on ‘Issues in Sovereign Domestic Debt (SDD) Restructuring’ on Wednesday, 24 August from 6 p.m. onwards SL time.
CFA Society Sri Lanka President Dinesh Warusavitharana CFA said, “When emerging and developing economies accumulate more sovereign domestic debt, restructuring SDD poses a different set of challenges compared to a restructuring of sovereign foreign debt. In such a context it is important to analyse the impact and how to restructure sovereign domestic debt while minimising economic and financial disruptions.” Considering the far-reaching implications of restructuring SDD, to the financial sector, the CFA Society Sri Lanka has organised this virtual conversation for the benefit of all concerned.
During the session, the eminent speaker and panellists will educate the audience on issues in restructuring SDD. Also, the panel will draw on recent case studies and discuss a wide range of topics including: How does debt sustainability work? What is the likelihood of an SDD restructuring taking place in Sri Lanka? What are the likely paths for SDD restructuring? What will be the potential effects on financial stability and economic activity? What kind of policy response may be required? And what can investors do to prepare for this scenario?
JB Securities CEO/Advocata Institute Chairman and CFA Society Sri Lanka Past President Murtaza Jafferjee CFA will deliver the keynote speech on the theme ‘Sovereign Domestic Debt (SDD) Restructuring’ and related issues pertaining to Sri Lanka.
This will be followed by, a panel discussion comprising Christopher Paul Dielmann, CFA, Senior Economist, The World Bank, formerly Lead Analyst, Debt Policy Division in the Strategy, Policy, and Review Department of the International Monetary Fund, and Anshari Perera, CFA, Head of Sector Research and Lead Macro Economic Analyst, Frontier Research Ltd. The discussion will be moderated by Ravi Abeysuriya, CFA, Director, Advocacy Chair/Past President of CFA Society Sri Lanka, and CEO/Director of Senfin Securities, Sri Lanka.
