Chartered Institute of Taxation of Sri Lanka 2023 Convocation

The newly incorporated Chartered Institute of Taxation of Sri Lanka (CITSL) held its 2023 convocation recently at BMICH under the leadership of CIT Executive Council President Ranil Abeywardhene with Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena as the Chief Guest.

The event saw awarding of certificates to the members of the Executive Council, Past Presidents, Fellow Members, Associate Members, and Certified Tax Practitioner (CTP) holders.

Additionally, the J. A. R. Felix Memorial Merit Awards to the members who obtained highest average marks at professional level in one sitting was made by CITSL Executive Council Member Dr. Shivaji Felix.

Chief Guest Siriwardena delivered the keynote titled “Tax compliance towards sustainable economic development” whilst Guest of Honour Ministry of Finance Department of Fiscal Policy Director General Dr. Kapila Senanayake delivered a motivational speech. University of Sri Jayewardenepura Postgraduate Institute of Management Director Dr. Senaka Kelum Gamage handed over certificates to Certified Tax Practitioner (CTP) holders. Vote of thanks was delivered by CITSL Secretary and Convocation Committee Chairman V. Rameshkumar.

The Sri Lanka Institute of Taxation (SLIT), incorporated under the Parliamentary Act No. 21 of 2000, was granted Chartered status under the amendment of the Parliamentary Act No. 13 of 2023 in September last year.

Through the qualifications achieved from CIT, its students and members are able to start their own freelance tax consultancy firms or work as tax practitioners for relevant companies. All CIT members would also gain statutory recognition and become authorised under Section 195 of the Inland Revenue Act, No. 24 of 2017 and in subsequent amendments.
