Colombo Investor Forum hailed as resounding success

As part of an ongoing initiative to establish a deeper understanding of investing in the capital market of Sri Lanka, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) successfully conducted the Colombo Investor Forum on 1 November at the Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo. This was the 13th in a series of regional fora titled ‘Kotas welenda pola: Nagarayen nagarayate’ and brought together over 250 participants and comprised of both existing investors and potential investors. 

Brandix Group Finance Director Hasitha Premaratne in his presentation gave an in-depth analysis of the Macro Economy and outlined the post war performance of the market, market volatility and local and global factors that impact the market. Acuity Stockbrokers Ltd. Director Research Chethana Ellepola analysed the sectoral performance and market opportunities in her presentation and touched on three areas including update of the Sri Lankan market, buying opportunities based on the current market situation and selecting of sectors. 

The panel discussion that followed was moderated by CSE Head of Market Development Niroshan Wijesundere, and included the two speakers and SEC Director General Vajira Wijegunawardane and CSE Chief Executive Officer Rajeeva Bandaranaike. Highlights of the discussion focused on the current market conditions, the regulatory framework governing the capital market and local and foreign investor behaviour. 

The Forum presented a platform for participants to engage in dialogue with stockbrokers and unit trust management companies and gain valuable insights into investing in the capital market.
