The Commercial Bank of Ceylon has announced that its credit card holders can now register themselves on the bank’s website to receive their monthly statements electronically without waiting to receive them by post.

Approximately 45% of the bank’s credit card holders have already opted for e-statements, and the bank said it expected a further conversion facilitated by the new self-registration option.

A significant shift to e-statements, while increasing convenience for those cardholders, will also help the bank to further reduce paper consumption and by extension enable more customers to contribute to its environment friendly initiatives, the bank said.

To avail of the self-registration facility, existing Commercial Bank credit card holders only have to log-in to the bank’s website, access the self-registration portal, and select the ‘e-statements only’ option. Those who complete the registration process successfully will be notified by email, after which they will receive their e-statements commencing from the next billing date starting from the next month. The registration process is secured by an OTP (one time password) to ensure data security. Hence cardholders are not required to visit a branch to activate the facility. Switching to e-statements not only ensures cardholders receive their statements without any delay, it minimises manual involvement, eliminating having to utilise resources to print statements  and  send by post. The e-statements can also be accessed from customers’ mobile devices at any time, anywhere, further enhancing ease of access.

Earlier this year, Commercial Bank launched a campaign to encourage the migration from regular statements by post to e-statements. The campaign culminated with two lucky customers drawn from those who responded in the promotion period being awarded the cash equivalent of two tour packages to Singapore inclusive of return air tickets and hotel accommodation with all other expenses paid.  Additionally, the first 1,000 credit card holders that converted to e-statements received 2,000 Max Loyalty Rewards points each.

Commercial Bank cards are the fastest-growing cards in Sri Lanka and enjoy market leadership in credit and debit card cumulative point-of-sale usage. The bank offers a variety of credit cards in the Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers of Visa, Mastercard and UnionPay Cards, as well as Visa Signature, World Mastercard, Visa Infinite, UnionPay Asia Prestige Platinum and UnionPay Asia Prestige Diamond Cards in the premium segment. The cards are equipped with ‘Tap ’n Go’ NFC technology and are backed by a strong NFC Point-of-Sale (POS) network.

Commercial Bank credit and debit cards offer year-round promotions covering a wide variety of services. Commercial Bank was the first bank to offer loyalty rewards for both credit and debit cardholders under its Max Loyalty Rewards Points scheme. The bank was also a pioneer in extending promotional discount offers which were traditionally only offered for credit cards to its debit cards.

The first Sri Lankan bank to be listed among the Top 1000 banks of the World and the only Sri Lankan bank to be so listed for 10 years consecutively, Commercial Bank is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The bank, which won more than 50 international and local awards in 2019, operates a network of 268 branches and 875 ATMs in Sri Lanka.
