DFCC Bank, one of Sri Lanka’s fully-fledged commercial banks, was recently recognised at the Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Awards 2021 in Karlsruhe, Germany for the ninth consecutive year with two awards.
They were, namely, the Sustainability Leader of the Year Certificate of Merit to the DFCC Bank CEO Lakshman Silva – in recognition of his exceptional leadership in driving the business performance of DFCC Bank PLC, through creating social, economic and environmental values – and the Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Business Sustainability Achievement to recognise success in incorporating sustainability in its corporate strategy and its business processes. Due to travel restrictions as a result of the pandemic, DFCC Bank was represented at the awards ceremony by Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Radolfzell, Germany Darma Vivekachandran.
In a congratulatory message sent to Silva, Arshad Rab, CEO of the European Organization for Sustainable Development (EOSD), the main organizer for this event, stated: “We warmly congratulate you on being honoured with the Certificate of Merit, Sustainability Leader of the Year 2021. Our heartiest congratulations to you also for DFCC being recognised, under your leadership, by receiving the Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Business Sustainability Achievement. The recognitions were conferred for demonstrating exceptional leadership in driving sustainability at the DFCC Bank and for your institution’s success in incorporating sustainability in its corporate strategy and its business processes. We have no doubt that these recognitions will not only inspire you and your institution to stay on course for making sustainability an integral part of your institution’s DNA, but in fact they will strengthen your resolve to intensify the sustainability journey.”
“We at DFCC are honoured to have received two awards at this prestigious event. These accolades are reflections of our commitment to sustainability, as the bank is now implementing its newly developed Sustainability Strategy 2020-2030 with the purpose of contributing towards a resilient Sri Lanka,” stated Silva.
The Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Award honours financial institutions that have made significant contributions to the field of sustainable finance. Bagging awards for the ninth consecutive year, DFCC Bank has lived up to its name as the ‘Bank for Everyone,’ focusing on the development, sustainability and inclusivity of the nation and its people.
