Dr. Gehan Gunatilleke has been appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the Board of Janashakthi Insurance Plc.
Dr. Gunatilleke is an Attorney-at-Law and a founding partner of LexAG, a law firm based in Colombo.
He is a former advisor to Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he advised the Government on international treaty compliance and access to the European Union’s GSP+ trade concession scheme. He has also served on several legislative drafting committees in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Gunatilleke is currently a Commissioner at the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka and a post-doctoral fellow at Pembroke College, University of Oxford. He has a doctorate and master’s degree in law from the University of Oxford, where he was a Commonwealth scholar, and an LL.M from Harvard Law School, where he was a Fulbright scholar.
Janashakthi Insurance recently saw the resignation by Independent Non-Executive Directors P. Sivagananathan and Mahela Jayawardena.
With the latest developments, the Board of Janashakthi Insurance Plc now comprises Prakash Schaffter (Executive Deputy Chairman), Ramesh Schaffter, A. Rodrigo, W. de Costa, A. Senanayake, Dr. Nishan de Mel, S. Renganathan, Dr. Gehan Gunatilleke and R. Liyanage (Director/CEO).
