Fairfirst Insurance branded with ‘Compliance +’ certificate for excelling in employment practices

Post relaunch of the Employees Federation of Ceylon (EFC), Fairfirst Insurance Ltd. becomes the first member company to be issued the patented certification of ‘Compliance +’. Hailed and recognised by the International Labour Organization (ILO), this certification is a clear demonstration of the commitment of the business community in promoting the Decent Work agenda of the ILO.

Compliance + is an exclusive Sri Lankan brand identity that recognises a company for not just being compliant with the laws of the land but surpassing them to excel in employment practices.

What is unique about Compliance + is that this brand demonstrates an inherent aspiration on the part of employers to conform to good employment practices. In other words, it is something that the employers have initiated voluntarily for themselves.

Fairfirst continuously strives to be fair in its dealings so that it is able to treat its stakeholders in the same way it likes to be treated. In this process, being compliant with social and environmental standards and maintaining global standards in doing so becomes a prerequisite of its employment practices. In this regard, Fairfirst has been recognised for excelling in the areas of:

  • Labour Laws
  • Equal opportunities for employment
  • Employer-employee relations
  • Work arrangement practices
  • Environment, Health and Safety

Commenting on this benchmark, Managing Director and CEO Dr. Sanjeev Jha stated: “At Fairfirst, we always aspire to be driven by fairness. A core component of being a fair employer is ensuring compliance with the principles articulated by EFC. This certification is immensely gratifying as an external validation of our practice of fairness. Business is a force for good if done with the right mix of empathy, authenticity, transparency and social responsibility. Submitting out internal practices to the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon scrutiny is our way of being transparent and authentic. I would encourage other companies wanting to create a transparent and authentic environment to explore the significance of Compliance +.”
