The Cabinet of Ministers approved awarding contracts to five new operators for currency exchange in the area designated for customs purposes at the arrivals terminal of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake for three years.
The five operators include: Bank of Ceylon, People’s Bank, Sampath Bank PLC, Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, and Thomas Cook Lanka Ltd.
The move was made based on the recommendation of the Technical Evaluation Committee and Standing Procurement Committee appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers after evaluating the bids.
On 8 January, the Cabinet approved the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd. to invite limited competitive bidding to operate currency exchange counters in the area designated for customs purposes at the arrivals terminal of BIA.
“After receiving five bids and evaluating them, it was decided to award the contracts for three years,” Cabinet Co-Spokesman and Minister Bandula Gunawardena said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.
The proposal submitted by Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
