HDFC Bank and the Department for Registration of Persons (DRP) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) enabling the bank to digitally verify the customers’ identity through the DRP Information portal. This initiative was taken as per the guidelines by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka for non-face-to-face customer identification and verifications using electronic interface.

This will enable the bank to provide a convenient service to the customers who are willing to obtain the bank’s services through electronic communications. The bank will make use of facilities of the web interface to access the information system of the Department for Registration of Persons to validate that the NIC details submitted by a customer are true and accurate.

This digital customer verification process will facilitate ID card verification, document verification for proof of address. Realising the need to optimise efficiencies, HDFC Bank continues to invest in new digital tools and technological platforms eliminating time-consuming processes and streamlining operations to meet the strategic vision of the bank. IT based growth is a key strategy, which is gradually enhancing bank operations and services in order to create an efficient and highly productive work environment. HDFC Bank Chief Executive Officer/General Manager Palitha Gamage, and Department for Registration of Persons (DRP) Commissioner General P.V. Gunathilake signed on behalf of the two organisations.
