K. Sivagananathan memorial oration and awards ceremony tomorrow

The 22nd annual memorial oration and awards ceremony of the K. Sivagananathan Memorial Trust (KSMT) jointly organised by the Association of Professional Bankers of Sri Lanka (APB) and the KSMT will be held on Thursday, 7 March at 6.00 p.m. at Auditorium of the BOC Headquarters, Fort.

This event is held annually in commemoration of the late Sivagananathan who was an innovative banker and contributed much to uplift and upgrade Sri Lanka’s premier state bank – the Bank of Ceylon. He also worked tirelessly with the APB and IBSL to improve the standard of education in the field of banking and finance in Sri Lanka to be on par with international standards.

Chief Guest World Bank’s Country Manager for Sri Lanka and Maldives Chiyo Kanda, will deliver the memorial oration titled “Sri Lanka’s opportunity to build a resilient financial sector: A Global perspective.”

Over 25 students who have obtained the highest marks in the Diploma in Applied Banking and Finance (DABF) in the March and September 2023 examinations conducted by the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL), will be awarded cash prizes and certificates.

The APB, a premier association serving the banking and financial institutions over the past 35 years has achieved many of its objectives year on year. Its primary mission being to sustain the highest standards of professionalism and integrity among bankers, influence the achievement of the highest ethical standards and governance in the banking industry.

The K. Sivagananathan Memorial Trust (KSMT) is a non-profit organisation predominantly dedicated to helping students pursuing higher studies in the field of banking and finance and encouraging them to excel in their examinations to achieve a higher standard to be in par with the developed countries, which was one of late Sivagananathan’s wishes.

Together both institutes, with their common objective to serve the nation and to promote banking studies, have successfully achieved their objectives over the years and continue to thrive in promoting banking as a career. Many who won the awards 20 years ago have progressed in their banking career and are holding high-level positions in 

many banks.

The KSMT has distributed over 1500 cash prizes and certificates since 2002 to students who excelled in the banking exams conducted by the IBSL. In addition, the Trust has also sponsored less-privileged students to complete their banking examinations, undergraduate degrees in business and finance as well as sponsored gold medals to be awarded at the Convocation of the IBSL.

In the past, this year too, a majority of the highest achievers in the DABF examination are from Kandy, Jaffna, Galle, and other districts. The APB Sri Lanka President B.A.H.S. Preena along with his Council members, the K.Sivagananathan Memorial Trust Chairman Nathan Sivagananathan and the Board of trustees and the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka Director General C.P.A Karunatilake

and the Governing board, jointly congratulate the students for achieving the highest grades in the respective subjects in all three mediums and wish them all a successful career.
