KPMG Sri Lanka Academy is pleased to announce an upcoming webinar titled “Administration Reviews and Tax Appeals” on Tuesday, 9 July at 3:00 p.m.

The webinar will feature insights from Principal Suresh Perera, Principal Rifka Ziyard, Tax and Regulatory Associate Director Thomas Radhini and KPMG Tax and Regulatory Associate Director Mirani Ratnarajah.

This session will explore the Administration reviews and tax appeals which are essential mechanisms within the tax system that ensure accuracy, compliance, and fairness. An administration review is an internal process conducted by tax authorities to verify the accuracy of a taxpayer’s returns and financial statements. This process helps in detecting discrepancies, ensuring compliance, preventing fraud, and securing the correct amount of tax revenue. Tax appeals, on the other hand, provide taxpayers with a formal avenue to dispute decisions made by tax authorities. Grounds for appeals include disagreements over assessments, penalties, interpretations of law, and procedural errors. The appeal process involves filing a formal appeal, a preliminary review, a hearing, and a decision by the appellate body. Further appeals can be made to higher judicial bodies if necessary. The session will explore the key tips for navigating tax appeals include understanding the relevant laws, keeping detailed records, seeking professional advice, adhering to deadlines, and preparing thoroughly for hearings. Together, these processes help maintain the integrity of the tax system, allowing for the resolution of disputes and the upholding of taxpayer rights.
