NDB felicitated with nine awards at National Business Excellence Awards 2021

National Development Bank PLC was felicitated with the Overall Winner – Silver Award as well as the Gold award in the Banking Sector at the National Business Excellence Awards 2021, hosted by the National Chamber of Commerce, Sri Lanka (NCCSL) at BMICH Colombo.

NDB’s Chief Executive Officer Dimantha Seneviratne accepted the awards in the presence of a large gathering of top business leaders, business organisations from across the country, and diplomatic missions.

Speaking on the awards received by the bank, NDB’s CEO said: “It is with great pride that I accept these awards on behalf of NDB Bank. It’s exciting indeed to be the recipient of prestigious awards such as Overall Winner – Silver and the Gold Award for the Banking Sector, which demonstrates NDB’s sustained excellence in performance across a multitude of parameters. 

As the CEO I am grateful to the wonderful team at NDB that has made such excellent performance possible, which makes NDB stand out as a true corporate icon of excellence over the years.”

In addition to winning these prestigious awards, NDB Bank also emerged as the Winner in four other categories - Excellence in Capacity Building, Excellence in Performance Management, Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility and Excellence in Environmental Sustainability. NDB also emerged as the First Runner Up in the Extra Large Category, Runner Up - Excellence in Local Market Reach and Runner Up - Excellence in Corporate Governance. 

The breadth of NDB’s performance at the National Business Excellence Awards is strong affirmation of the sustained performance that the Bank maintains across the different facets of the organisation. NDB has been able to generate meaningful value to a wide range of its stakeholders even through the pandemic, defying many challenges.  

The Bank continued to innovate in its customer solutions with the aid of digital technology and enhance internal processes through deployment of sophisticated technology such as Robotic Process Automation. This together with measures towards building capabilities of the Bank’s Human capital earned it the award for Excellence in Capacity Building.  

NDB’s focused budgeting and target setting process and performance appraisals at both corporate level and individual level towards effectively driving performance towards aspired levels, even amidst the most turbulent times; earned the Bank the award for Excellence in Performance Management. 

NDB has always been at the forefront of sustainability by creating value for its stakeholders and making sustainability initiatives the crux of all business operations. The Bank’s sustainability goals include ethical business practices, good governance, minimising of its carbon footprint, fostering of a sustainability culture throughout the organisation and implementation of CSR initiatives that promote national sustainable development. 

NDB has  pioneered several initiatives in fighting climate change such as the “Let’s Grow” NDB reforestation project of planting 3,000 trees in Matale, restoration of 40,000 mangroves in Puttlam and Mannar and empowering the youth of Sri Lanka with environmental literacy and consciousness in partnership with Wildlife and Nature Protection Society of Sri Lanka. Endeavours in this regard earned the Bank the twin awards for Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility and Excellence in Environmental Sustainability. 

The Bank’s accomplishments stand witness to NDB’s enhanced stature and prominence, proving the Bank’s business excellence in every endeavour.

The National Business Excellence Awards is an annual awards competition conducted by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) with a view to recognising business enterprises, which display business excellence across multiple aspects. Widely hailed as the pinnacle award for business excellence in the local domain, the evaluation process that led to winners being selected comprised both a written application from the Bank and an interview conducted by a panel of judges with the Bank’s top management. 

NDB Bank was awarded the “Best Digital Bank 2021” at the Asiamoney Best Bank Awards for Sri Lanka in addition to being crowned “Sri Lanka’s Best Bank 2021” by the prestigious Global Finance Magazine of USA, and “The Bank of the Year Sri Lanka 2020”, by The Banker Magazine UK and is the “Most Awarded Corporate 2021” as per LMD ranking.
