The National Savings Bank on Monday celebrated the Sinhala-Tamil New Year with a new ritual of “Nakathata Palayak” (plant a sapling at auspicious time) with valued customers in collaboration of The Ministry of Agriculture. The bank along with its 262 strong branch network is distributing economically important crop plants to customers on the first working day after the holidays.

Initiation of the event was signified by the Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, NSB General Manager and CEO Ajith Peiris, Board member Gamini Lakshman, Agriculture Ministry Secretary Gunadasa Samarasinghe and Sri Lanka Hadabima Authority Chairperson Sarath Chandrasiri Vithana among others. Having a long tradition of caring for nature through tree planting initiatives, the bank intends to make ways for the customers to generate income from their home gardens while enjoying the beauty of plants bearing fruit.
