New international book ‘Innovating Central Banks’ by former CB Deputy Governor Samarasiri

Samarasiri released his sixth book ‘Innovating Central Banks’ to share some of his experience and thoughts on how to innovate central banks to fix fundamental problems of money and banking in in modern economies. The book covers 16 chapters through 760 pages and four parts, i.e., macroeconomic management, central bank governance, monetary policy and bank regulation and supervision. 

Since societies depend on money for their activities, central bank functions and decisions world over have wide impact on societies in all corners. Therefore, any innovation in societies and human beings requires contemporary innovation of central bank functions. Otherwise, modern societies will find new types of money and banking outside old models of central banks to facilitate their evolution in the digital era. Therefore, this book provides a practical guide on how to innovate central banks for betterment of human beings in this century. All chapters are presented in reader-friendly language with real world examples. The book is very useful for economic policymakers, bankers and teachers and students in economics and banking.

Other five books authored by Samarasiri and published by the Central Bank are Money Transactions, Banking and Economy (Sinhala), Analysis of Key Economic Principles (Sinhala), Economic Principles and Policies (Sinhala), A Survey of Financial System (English) and A Guide to Financial Services in Sri Lanka (Sinhala, Tamil and English).
