Nilam Jayasinghe appointed to Bank of Ceylon Board

Finance professional S. Nilam Jayasinghe was appointed to the Board of Bank of Ceylon 

Jayasinghe, possessing over 30 years of experience in the areas of general management, finance, corporate finance and treasury, and is presently the Group Director – Finance of Ceylon Biscuits (CBL) Group of Companies. He also serves on CBL Investments Ltd. (the holding company) and on the boards of other group companies. 

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), United Kingdom (UK) and served on the Global Board of CIMA, UK, for a three-year term and was the Vice Chair of its Global Markets Committee. A past president of CIMA Sri Lanka, he has served on numerous committees for over two decades and continues as a Global Membership Assessor for CIMA on an honorary basis. He is also the recipient of the Institutes Medal for his services to the profession.

Prior to joining CBL, he was a Vice President of National Development Bank PLC for 15 years and responsible for various functions including finance, planning, treasury, resources mobilisation (funding), audit/ compliance and administration, while serving on the boards of some of its subsidiaries. Previously, he was the Group Treasurer of Aitken Spence Group and Director of Aitken Spence Corporate Finance Ltd. He also served as the Finance and Commercial Manager of the original team which set up Lanka Tiles PLC, the most technologically advanced ceramic plant during the mid-1980s. He is also an alumni of M/s. KPMG, Chartered Accountants.

Jayasinghe was a past Chairman of the Industrial Association of Sri Lanka (IASL) affiliated to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and also served on the main Committee of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. Presently, he serves on the Taxation Committee of the Chamber. He has also served two terms at the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board (SLASMB), and was appointed by the Sri Lanka Banks’ Association and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to chair the committee comprising heads of audit of banks to improve the control environment.

The other Bank of Ceylon Board of Directors include Chairman Ronald C. Perera PC, K. A. Vimalenthirarajah, Kumar Mayadunne and Prakash Schaffter.
