  • 107 new ACAs elevated to Fellow status

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) on Wednesday conferred the distinguished Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) designation to 301 new members, making way for them to take on challenging new corporate positions with the ability to steer businesses across diverse sectors successfully.  

The 301 new ACAs received their membership at the annual convocation of CA Sri Lanka upon successfully completing the globally recognised Chartered Accounting programme, which has been recognised as one of the country’s top professional qualifications having instilled versatile skills ranging from leadership to strategy as well as technical skills, making Chartered Accountants of CA Sri Lanka an important value addition to successful businesses. 

At the convocation, another 107 existing Chartered Accountants were elevated having been granted the prestigious Fellow status at the BMICH which was attended by a large gathering including the new members and their families. 

Cargills Foods Company Managing Director Asoka Pieris was the chief guest, while CA Sri Lanka President Sanjaya Bandara, CA Sri Lanka Vice President Heshana Kuruppu, Member Relations Committee Chairman Tishan Subasinghe, CA Sri Lanka Chief Executive Officer Dulani Fernando were among the special invitees at the event.  

Pieris said that the professional accomplishment of the new members of CA Sri Lanka comes at a time when the country is at a critical juncture due to the ongoing economic crisis.

“Therefore, the new members of this prestigious institute who qualifies as Chartered Accountants have a crucial role to play in this backdrop, while the Associates who receive their Fellow Membership must continue to play a greater role in driving our corporates to success and sustainability while being an excellent example to our younger members.”

Addressing the gathering, Bandara highlighted that Chartered Accountants are gatekeepers, difference-makers, and the brains behind many successful businesses.

“So, take pride in your standing as a member of this prestigious body, which commands a history of over 63 years. From now on, you will be part of a prestigious league of over 7,900 members,” he said. He highlighted that the success of the accounting profession depends on the respect that members of its profession command.  Bandara said that Chartered Accountants are in demand because they are good at what they do and because ethics is a fundamental pillar of the profession. 

“So, don’t compromise your values, and don’t forget that ethics and integrity will continue to play a crucial aspect of being a highly respected Chartered Accountant,” Bandara added. 

According to Subasinghe, due to the recognition the CA Sri Lanka qualification commands across the world, Chartered Accountants qualified at the Institute will always enjoy enhanced global mobility and will not have to limit their employment to within the country as they are in demand all over the world. 

Chartered Accountants qualified at CA Sri Lanka serve in over 40 countries including Australia, Africa, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, South East Asia and South Asia.

“I am certain our new members who come on-board will play a tremendous role in helping propagate the importance of our profession across Sri Lanka and the world over, while our new Fellow Members will continue to play an influential role to safeguard CA Sri Lanka’s impeccable standing in the corporate world,” he added.
