In a vibrant celebration of International Women’s Day, People’s Bank held a special event at their Head Office in Colombo 2, showcasing their dedication to female empowerment and entrepreneurial success.

The event, presided over by the CEO/General Manager Clive Fonseka, was not just a ceremonial gathering but a launchpad for ground-breaking initiatives aimed at uplifting women entrepreneurs across Sri Lanka.

Under the inspiring theme ‘For all Trailblazing Women empowering the Future’, People’s Bank joined forces with Good Market to kick-start a comprehensive training program coupled with financial assistance for 12 selected women entrepreneurs. This initiative seeks to nurture their business acumen and support their growth in the competitive market. Good Market, known for its commitment to social entrepreneurship, sustainability, and ethical practices, proves to be a fitting collaborator in this empowering journey.

The event also served as a platform to honour exceptional women who have made significant contributions to the nation. Awards of recognition were bestowed upon several influential figures, including Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Thilaka Jayasundara, a noted specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Dr. Sakuntala Seneviratne, a celebrated beautician and fashion designer Nayana Karunaratne, Good Market Co-Founder and Managing Director Achala Samaradiwakara and Maharaja Institute of Management CEO and Maharaja Talent Management Director Chethana Liyanage.

In addition to celebrating these remarkable women, People’s Bank took the opportunity to introduce its customers to innovative financial products and services designed to foster economic growth and stability. Among the highlights were the Vanitha Vasana Money Planner investment scheme for women. The event also marked the launch of an online loan application system and a unique loan insurance scheme offered by People’s Insurance, setting a new standard in customer convenience and security.

The festivities were further enhanced by a trade exhibition featuring an array of products from women entrepreneurs, adding a tangible element of support to the theoretical frameworks discussed. This exhibition not only showcased the talents and creativity of Sri Lankan women but also highlighted the potential for growth and success within the entrepreneurial sector.

High-profile attendees including People’s Insurance CEO Jeevani Kariyawasam, People’s Bank Deputy General Manager - Retail Banking T. M. W. Chandrakumara, along with members of the bank’s corporate and executive management, entrepreneurs, professionals, and customers, underscored the collective commitment to advancing women’s roles in business and society.

People’s Bank’s celebration of International Women’s Day reached beyond the confines of the head office, with branches island-wide participating in the initiative. This widespread involvement emphasises the bank’s ongoing deep commitment to empowering women.
