Multi-religious observances
A ceremony was held yesterday to usher in the New Year at the head office of People’s Bank during which the bank staff assumed duties by pledging the Government Service Oath.
The gathering was addressed by People’s Bank Chairman Sujeewa Rajapakse and Chief Executive Officer/General Manager Clive Fonseka. A ceremonial chanting of Seth Pirith as well as multi-religious observances also were conducted on this day.
The event at the head office was attended by the corporate and executive management, representatives of trade unions, representatives of religious organisations and other voluntary organisations, all team members and pensioners. Simultaneously in branches all over the country similar events took place with staff members pledging the Public Service Oath in commemoration of the New Year.
Established under the People’s Bank Act No. 29 of 1961, People’s Bank is the country’s second-largest financial services provider with over Rs. 3 trillion in consolidated assets. At present, the bank has 747 branches and service centres located countrywide and over 14.7 million customers.
