Ramal joins Arpico Insurance Board

Ramal Jasinghe

Ramal Jasinghe has been appointed to the Directorate of Arpico Insurance PLC as a Non-Executive Independent Director with effect from 16 May following the approval given by the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka. 

He does not hold any shares in Arpico Insurance PLC.

Jasinghe began his career in the chemical industry serving for 12 years culminating in his tenure as the Marketing Manager/Alternate Director at the multinational Union Carbide Lanka Ltd.

On completion of his MBA where he read at the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, he was invited to serve on the senior management of Union Assurance Ltd. Having received the management training at two prestigious management business schools; Indian Institute of Management (lIM) Ahmedabad and the Stanford University, Palo Alto California, he served the company with a track record of excellence for a period of 10 years.

Jasinghe joined Asian Alliance Insurance, initially as the CEO and after five years in service he was appointed to the Directorate and was designated Director/CEO position until the sale of Asian Alliance General Insurance arm to Fairfirst of Canada. He served 12 years as Director/CEO in Asian Alliance.

Following the merger of Union Assurance General Insurance which Fairfirst owned, with the General Insurance arm of Asian Alliance and after the former merging with the latter, he had the privilege of being made the first CEO of the newly formed General Insurance Company, Fairfirst. He served for three years at Fairfirst retiring as a Director thus serving in the insurance industry for 25 years.

After serving in Fairfirst he was invited to Chair an Insurance Brokerage, Strategic Insurance Brokers and served there for a short period.

He has served as the President of the Insurance Association of Sri Lanka, on the Board of the Riot and Strike Commission, as well as on the Financial Services Stability Committee, of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
