Rasitha Gunawardana appointed to HNB Board

Veteran ex-banker Rasitha Gunawardana has been appointed as a Non-Executive Independent Director of HNB PLC.

Gunawardana is a senior banker with over three decades of experience covering major aspects of banking. He is a Chartered Management Accountant of the United Kingdom and a Chartered Global Management Accountant. He is an ACI in Treasury operations.

Rasitha served as the CEO/General Manager of People’s Bank during 2019-2020. Prior to that, he held a number of corporate and executive level positions, including Senior Deputy General Manager (Business Banking), Deputy General Manager (Risk Management), Deputy General Manager (Credit Control), Assistant General Manager (Treasury Operations).

During this period, he played a major role in improving the Credit and Risk culture of the bank, through introduction of risk-based credit and business policies and procedures.

He also held directorships in People’s Leasing and Finance PLC, People’s Insurance PLC, People’s Merchant Finance PLC, Lanka Clear Ltd., Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka, Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka (CRIB), People’s Travels Ltd and People’s Micro Finance Ltd.

With the latest appointment, HNB Board of Directors comprises of Aruni Goonetilleke (Chairperson), Jonathan Alles (Managing Director/CEO), Dilshan Rodrigo, Amal Cabraal, Madu Ratnayake, Damien Fernando, D. Cooray, O. Chandrawansa, P.R. Saldin, K.V.N. Jayawardene, Kithsiri Gunawardena, R. Gunawardana and Prasad Samarasinghe (alternate to Damien Fernando).
