SEC and CSE continue stock market awareness initiative by hosting investor forum in Ampara

SEC Ampara Investor Forum participants

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) successfully conducted another investor forum in Ampara at the Monty Hotel on 30 May.

The forum was organised with the objective of raising awareness of the importance of investor education and investor protection.

The forum attracted over 90 participants, including the professionals and business communities in the region. The forum provided valuable insights on investor education and investor protection.

At the investor forum, SEC Manager – External Relations Nimal Kumarasinghe provided a basic knowledge of investments, the process of investing, and the pros and cons of investing in the stock market. A session to create awareness on the CSE mobile app was conducted by a CSE Executive from the Kandy branch, Madhawa Aramandeniya.

Furthermore, an analysis of the sectoral performance and market opportunities was presented by Acuity Stockbrokers Ltd. Director – Sales Kapila Pathirage.

A panel discussion was held with the participation of Nimal Kumarasinghe, Kapila Pathirage, and CSE Senior Vice President – Marketing Niroshan Wijesundere providing an opportunity for participants to clarify any doubts from the panellists.

The participants were also given the opportunity to meet investment advisors from stock brokerage firms and representatives of unit trust management companies.

The SEC and CSE have planned more investor forums this year in locations such as Negombo, Colombo, Anuradhapura, and Batticaloa in order to create awareness via investor education and protection while highlighting the importance of financial literacy.
