Secondary bond market activity remains low

Activity in the secondary bond market continued at a slow pace yesterday with limited trades witnessed on the maturities of 15.10.21, 2022s (i.e. 15.11.22 and 15.12.22), 01.10.23 and 2024’s (i.e. 15.06.24 and 15.09.24) at levels of 5.01%, 5.54%, 5.55% to 5.57%, 5.72%, 6.08% and 6.10% respectively. In secondary bills, 27 August 2021 maturity traded at 4.80%. 

The total secondary market Treasury bond/bill transacted volumes for 16 September 2020 was Rs. 9.31 billion.   

In the money market, the overnight net liquidity surplus registered at Rs.172.59 billion yesterday with an amount Rs. 180.51 billion been deposited at the Standing Deposit Facility Rate (SDFR) of 4.50% against an amount of Rs. 7.92 billion, which was borrowed from the Standing Lending Facility Rate (SLFR) of 5.50%. The weighted average rates of overnight call money and Repos stood at 4.52% and 4.62% respectively.

 

LKR remains mostly unchanged

In the Forex market, USD/LKR rate on spot contracts was seen closing the day mostly unchanged at Rs. 185.00/10 yesterday subsequent to trading within the range of Rs. 184.90 to Rs. 185.05.

The total USD/LKR traded volume for 16 September was $ 52.16 million.
