Standard Chartered appoints new Head of Commercial Banking

Standard Chartered yesterday announced the appointment of Tamani Dias as the new Executive Director/Head of Commercial Banking in Sri Lanka (subject to regulatory approval). 

This appointment comes into effect from April. She takes over from Dushan Casie Chetty who will be taking up a new appointment as the Head of Network Initiatives for Commercial Banking based in Singapore. 

Tamani carries with her 15 years of Corporate Banking experience, having worked at Citibank for 10 years. She joined Standard Chartered Sri Lanka in 2013 and has worked in several areas including Wholesale Banking / Corporate and Institutional Client, Corporate and Institutional Banking and Commercial Banking. 

Commenting on the new appointment Commercial Banking Global Head Jiten Arora said, “At Standard Chartered, delivering the network to our clients and banking their ecosystem are important differentiators. We are present in 60 markets and serve clients in a further 85. This connectivity has helped with increasing wallet share among existing clients and growing New-to-Bank business. We are confident that Tamani with her wealth of experience in Commercial Banking will effectively lead the team to greater performance in Sri Lanka.”

Standard Chartered Sri Lanka CEO Bingumal Thewarathanthri said: “Our franchise has been in Sri Lanka for over 150 years, we have the local market expertise and global network to help our clients reach their full potential. We are certain that, with Tamani’s leadership the Commercial Banking unit will be able to further assist our clients in reaching their full potential.”

Tamani holds a Bsc in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
