Top professional Chiranthi Cooray has resigned from Hatton National Bank having served the institution in multiple roles for over a decade.

At the time of her resignation Chiranthi was the Deputy General Manager Sustainability and Corporate Communications. Previously she served as HNB’s Chief Human Resource Officer and Chief Transformation Officer and Trustee of the HNB Sustainability Foundation. Under her leadership, HNB achieved many local and international awards in the last 10 years in HR and Sustainability spheres.

With the move she has also resigned as Non-Independent/Non-Executive Director at HNB General Insurance Ltd. Incidentally she is the second member from HNB corporate management team to resign in recent weeks with the previous being Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer Dilshan Rodrigo.

Chiranthi is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA – UK) and holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Wales (Cardiff Metropolitan). She is a Senior Certified Professional SHRM USA and Certified HR Professional from IPMA, USA.

Chiranthi was awarded the HR Leadership Award for Global HR Excellence organised by World HR Congress in February 2015. She has also been awarded the Gold Category at the Women for Governance Professional and Career Women Awards 2014/2015 by the Women in Management for her exceptional contribution and achievements in the field of Human Resources. 

In 2017, Chiranthi served as the Chairwoman of the National Task Force to recommend a strategic road map to increase female labour force participation in Sri Lanka for the National HR Development Council of Sri Lanka. She serves on the Board of CSR Sri Lanka (Guarantee) Ltd, Advisory Board of AISEC Sri Lanka and the Women’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce and as Trustee of SLID - Education and Technical Working Committee, Women’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce - Policy Advocacy Committee, International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka Insurance Committee and Ceylon Chamber of Commerce – Steering Committee on People Development. She is a past President of the Association of Human Resource Professionals, Sri Lanka.
