AAT Sri Lanka held a seminar to discuss how the maiden budget of the new Government could pave the way forward for Sri Lanka to revitalise the economy. The seminar was organised by the AAT Business School and was held recently at the AAT Centre Auditorium. A booklet on Budget Highlights was issued to all participants that attended the session.

The focus of the seminar was to highlight the important aspects of the Budget 2015 covering the economy and taxation with special emphasis on corporate and personal taxation, VAT and miscellaneous taxes and the impact of new taxes on business and the economy.

The keynote address was delivered by Inland Revenue Department Commissioner General Kalyani Dahanayake, while Ministry of Finance Tax Policy Advisor W. Thanuja A. Perera did the presentation on ‘Tax Proposals’. A panel discussion was held at the end of the presentation which was chaired by AAT Sri Lanka Immediate Past President Ganaka Amarasinghe.

Panellists were Inland Revenue Department Deputy Commissioner General Dhammila Gunathilaka and Gajma & Co. Senior Partner N.R. Gajendran.

The specialised panel not only shared their views on the Government’s budget but also answered questions pertaining to the Government’s future outlook.

The seminar was a great success and this program was structured in a manner to shed light on many practical issues involving businesses.
