AIA Insurance among South Asia’s best for social empowerment

AIA Insurance won the Social Empowerment award at the prestigious international Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards 2014 – South Asia recently. The awards ceremony and gala dinner was held at the Marriott in New Delhi and Head of Marketing Suren Perera collected the trophy on behalf of the company.
AIA Insurance received the honour for the company’s extensive Poson safety initiative held for the 20th consecutive year to safeguard the million or more pilgrims who throng the sacred city of Anuradhapura during the Poson season to commemorate the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka. Pilgrims camp out beside the lakes and reservoirs that dot the district and run the risk of drowning in the dangerous waters.
AIA’s extensive safety campaign included facilitating the presence of over 600 lifesavers from the Sri Lanka Police, the Navy and the Life Saving Association of Sri Lanka. Lives of seven pilgrims were saved from drowning in 2013. The intensive Poson safety campaign included creating awareness of the danger through hoardings, pennants and public announcements, distribution of leaflets as well as mass media advertising over TV, radio and press.
