Amãna Bank bagged two prestigious Gold awards at the 2nd Annual Sri Lanka Islamic Banking and Finance Industry (SLIBFI) awards night organised by Uto Edu Consult at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo last week. This is the only local award ceremony that recognises all individuals and institutions that made a significant contribution to the Islamic Banking and Finance industry in Sri Lanka during the year.
Following an independent assessment of services provided by the Knowledge Partner, KPMG Sri Lanka, the bank clinched the Gold award for ‘The Islamic Finance Entity of the Year’ and the Gold award for ‘The Islamic Finance Deal of the Year’. This is the second consecutive time Amãna Bank has won ‘The Islamic Finance Entity of the Year’ award.
‘The Islamic Finance Entity of the Year’ award was received by Managing Director/CEO Faizal Salieh of the bank from the Chief Guest High Commissioner of Malaysia Azim Zainuddin.
Speaking on the achievement, Salieh said: “The award this year is an important re-affirmation of Amãna Bank’s position as Sri Lanka’s leading service provider of this unique model of asset-based financing. A distinguished accolade of this nature is also an appropriate acknowledgement of the hard work and commitment put in by the bank’s team in overcoming the many challenges faced by a new bank. I dedicate this award to all of the employees of the bank and the families that stand behind them.”
The comprehensive evaluation for the award scrutinises qualitative achievements, strategic initiatives, financial results, growth rates and performance data as well as other aspects such as technology, contribution to the community, development of the industry, innovation of products and key strategic developments.
The Gold award for ‘The Best Deal of the Year’was received by the bank’s Vice President Business Banking Amrit Canagaretna and Vice President Credit Ajmal Naleer from KPMG Sri Lanka Managing Partner Reyaz Mihular for financing the Lower Kotmale Oya Mini Hydro Power Project. Commenting on the award Canagaretna stated: “It is indeed a pleasure to be recognised for this prestigious award. We are happy to have partnered with Vidullanka PLC and Jaywise Construction Ltd. on such a project. The project was to construct a mini hydropower plant which would generate approximately 17 Gwh of energy annually, which is a significant contribution towards the industry as well as the economy. We at Amãna Bank are proud to be associated with such ventures which promote sustainable, renewable energy.”
