Association of Professional Bankers heads to Jaffna

Established in 1988, the Association of Professional Bankers, Sri Lanka has been the most representative organisation of banking professionals in the island and has functioned as a forum that brings the bankers together. This year the association celebrates its 25th anniversary and has planned a series of events to mark its silver jubilee.
The association is taking its activities to the north for the first time to give an opportunity for the bankers in north a forum to get together. The activities are scheduled to be held on Friday 28 June 2013 which would commence with a special pooja at the famous Nallur Kovil at 7:45 a.m. to invoke blessings for the association and the society.
The association also plans to hold an inaugural interbank quiz competition for the banks in north and already many banks have shown keen interest to participate. This would also give the bank employees of north an opportunity to learn and increase their awareness levels.
The quiz would be held in four rounds and would cover areas such as general banking awareness, laws and regulations related to banking, current and international affairs, general knowledge, sports and entertainment. The winners would be awarded challenge shields, certificates and medals.
A public lecture is also organised on the same day at the newly-opened HNB state-of-the-art auditorium in Jaffna for which the association has invited Dr. Muttukrishna Sarvanathan who is the Development Economist, Principal Researcher of Point Pedro Institute of Development. Dr. Sarvanathan would speak on the topic of the opportunities and challenges of the economic development of North which will be followed by a question and answer session.
The activities will come to an end with the Council of the Association headed by the 25th year President Aravinda Perera hosting fellowship for the senior bankers and the quiz participants which would be followed by dinner.
