Aviva NDB Insurance bagged two prestigious titles at the glittering event held recently to recognise the cream of corporate organisations in Sri Lanka.
The Company was named as one of the Top Ten Best Corporate Citizens and also became the Winner in the ‘Under LKR 10 billion turnover category’. The coveted recognition was awarded for exemplary performance in CSR and sustainable business by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
The winning companies were evaluated under five areas: Environment, Community Relations & CSR, Employee Relations, Customer & Supplier relations and Governance & Economic Contribution. Submissions were subjected to careful scrutiny that included several presentations to the panel of judges.The presentations convinced the judges that Corporate Responsibility is an important corner stone in Aviva NDB’s brand heritage and the purpose of bringing prosperity and peace of mind, not only to customers, but to all stakeholders of the company.
Managing Director Shah Rouf explained: “Everything we do as a business of managing risk and building wealth is closely entwined with our sincere objective of contributing to the sustainability and betterment of the nation and its people. We take pride in the fact that by inculcating safety and encouraging excellence our impact on the life of the community has been very positive.”
Amal Perera, General Manager, Marketing and Customer Management added: “Our Corporate Responsibility initiatives are selected for their relevance for the nation and a business focus is not a pre-requisite. Employee voluntarism is key and this focus unites our people to contribute as one family. Our CR endeavours cover a wide spectrum and even includes measures that safeguard the environment. “ The Company’s initiatives span a cross section of activities that range from inculcating safety to encouraging excellence. Aviva NDB evolved and sponsors the National Safety Awards that has become the coveted benchmark of a safe, accident-free workplace.
The award is presented in collaboration with two State organisations, the Department of Labour and the Employees Trust Fund Board. Communications promoting lighting crackers safely have significantly helped to reduce cracker-related accidents during festive times while safety campaigns held during Poson in Anuradhapura prevented accidents from drowning with lifeguards saving 12 pilgrims this year. The Company awards the Higher Education Scholarship on merit alone, to every child who tops the batch in each district at the Year 5 government scholarship examination. A monthly scholarship is awarded from the time the student enters Advanced Level class to the completion of the chosen university degree course.
‘Street to School’ is a worldwide programme of global Aviva and in Sri Lanka, Aviva NDB employees participated in supporting the school at Ihala Hevessa, a remote hamlet in the Kalutara District, by voluntarily providing scholarships to 27 deserving students, bringing alive the concept of recognising that all children have a right to education. Regular regional workshops also help to uplift and inspire different segments of the society ranging from pre-school teachers to small and medium entrepreneurs.
