Bank of Ceylon reaffirms status at National Business Excellence Awards 2014 by winning three awards at the recently-concluded awards ceremony. The event was attended by High Commissioner of Australia Robyn Mudie.
The Bank of Ceylon was awarded Winner in the category of Excellence in Local Market Reach; Runner-up in the category of Banking Sector; and Runner up in the category of Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility.

The National Business Excellence Awards is one of the prime awards ceremonies that recognises business organisations that make a significant contribution to the socio economic development of the country through exemplarily business practices.
The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka examines the excellence in leadership, corporate governance, capital building, performance in management, local and global market reach, corporate social responsibility, environmental, sustainability and business and financial results. The National Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka states that they have introduced more focus and sharpened criterion in judging of winners this year.
Bank of Ceylon as the ‘Bankers to the Nation’ has served the Sri Lankan community for 75 years and is the No. 1 Bank in Sri Lanka. It has touched the lives of more than 11 million people in the country. The bank is leading in every aspect of banking and financial services. During the last five years the bank has doubled its assets, deposits, loans, shareholder’s wealth and also increased profits.
The Bank of Ceylon earned global recognition as one of the top 1000 banks in the world, (highest among Sri Lankan banks) as listed by The Banker Magazine (UK) respectively in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The bank claimed its award as the only Sri Lankan brand recognized as one of Asia’s Best Brands in 2013 by the Chief Marketing Officers’ Council (CMO Council) based in Mumbai, India. Brand Finance Lanka has ranked Bank of Ceylon as the country’s most valuable brand for the last six consecutive years.
The bank has achieved exceptional milestones in recent years by achieving rapid growth in recent years and currently holds over Rs. 1 trillion assets. Focusing on the bank’s achievement, Fitch Rating Lanka ranked the Bank of Ceylon at AA+(lka), which is the highest rating awarded to a local commercial bank. Bank of Ceylon is also the only Sri Lankan bank with an international presence, with branches in Chennai, Male, Seychelles and a subsidiary in London.
The bank has consistently succeeded in contributing to the growth of the nation and continues to assist the development of the country and guiding entrepreneurs to reach greater heights.
