Bourse slips amidst foreigners buying

Reuters: Stocks edged down on Wednesday as retail investors sold some large-cap shares, but foreign buying halted the fall. The main share index edged down 0.19%, or 10.85 points, to close at 5,783.62. Foreign investors were net buyers of Rs. 111.9 million ($846,600) worth of shares on Wednesday, extending net foreign inflows in equities this year to Rs. 19.49 billion. Shares in George Steuart Finance Ltd. fell 20% to Rs. 488 while Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC fell 0.6% to Rs.  1,041. Shares in top conglomerate John Keells Holdings rose 0.9% to Rs. 222.90 on foreign buying. Wednesday’s turnover was Rs. 582.8 million, well below this year’s daily average of about Rs. 877.5 million.
