REUTERS: Sri Lankan stocks rose on Wednesday from their one-week closing low in the previous session, as large caps such as Ceylon Tobacco Co PLC and Nestle Lanka PLC lifted the index, though turnover fell to a near one-year low, dealers said.
The main stock index rose 0.16%, or 9.29 points, to close at 5,787.81. It added 3.87 billion rupees ($ 29.6 million) in market value.
The day’s turnover was Rs. 179.9 million, its lowest since 24 December, 2012 and well below this year’s daily average turnover of Rs. 840.3 million.
Shares in Ceylon Tobacco rose 3% to Rs. 1,139.50, while Nestle Lanka rose 2.14% to Rs. 2,150.
Foreign investors were net buyers of Rs. 23.5 million worth of shares on Wednesday, extending their net buying to Rs. 23.14 billion so far this year.
