A record 492 awards for performance excellence were presented on a single evening recently when life insurance market leader Ceylinco Life recognised leading contributors to the company’s sector-leading results of FY 2015.

Conducted as a tribute to the ‘Trailblazers of Life Insurance’ the entertainment-filled awards gala at the BMICH saw more than 250 members of Ceylinco Life’s high-flying sales team, executives, unit and branch heads receiving trophies, overseas trips, cash rewards and star-class weekend holiday packages for individual and team performances.

Speaking at the event, Ceylinco Life Managing Director and CEO R. Renganathan described 2015 as a year of challenges overcome, but said it was a year befitting the mettle of Ceylinco Life. Detailing some of the challenges, including a failed attempt to take over the company, he noted that “truth won out in the end, and today Ceylinco Life has emerged stronger than ever before.”

“These challenges did not disturb our concentration on our core business in our first year as an independent life insurance company, and we ended 2015 as the market leader in our sector for the 12th consecutive year,” Renganathan said.

He said although the sale of insurance products online is recording healthy growth, about 90 per cent of life insurance is still sold by sales agents. Bearing this in mind, Ceylinco Life has invested in equipping the sales force with the latest in tabs, mobile point-of-sale devices and laptops to facilitate their work and enhance convenience for customers.

Renganathan also pointed out that the company was a good example of gender equality, disclosing that when it commenced operations 28 years ago, 99.1% of the sales force was male. Today, the proportion of males to female in the sales force is 52% to 48%.

The awards ceremony was graced by two high profile international insurance personalities, Liu Ming Ta of Cathay Life as Chief Guest and Doug Adams, Management Consultant from USA as Guest of Honour.

The top award winners at this edition of Ceylinco Life’s annual awards were: Best Branch Head – H.H.U.S.C. Fernando of the Panadura branch; Best Unit Head – K. Sathkunasivam of the Colombo North 1 branch and Best Sales Consultant – R.P.G. De Silva of the Bambalapitiya branch.

Independently rated one of Sri Lanka’s most valuable brands, Ceylinco Life has maintained its leadership of the country’s long term insurance sector from 2004 onwards. The company operates the largest branch network among local life insurance companies, and has won multiple international and local awards for its commitment to the community and success in brand equity building.
