Says escalating healthcare costs necessitates review of cover Ceylinco Life has announced major enhancements of the benefits offered by three of the company’s medical plans, enabling policyholders to increase their cover to keep pace with rising healthcare costs. The ‘Family Digasiri Plus’ critical illness policy which previously covered 25 critical illnesses now covers 36; payments made in respect of 526 types of surgery under ‘Ceylinco Life Major Surgery’ have been revised upward, and the dailycash benefit paid under ‘Family Hospital Cash’ has also been increased, the life insurance leader said. “We are urging our policyholders to review the medical cover they currently enjoy in the context of the increasing costs of surgery, and other medical expenses,” Ceylinco Life Managing Director and CEO R. Renganathan said. “We believe it is time for many of them to obtain new plans that have been carefully revised after considering new trends and escalating costs.” The Ceylinco Life Family Digasiri Plus policy makes payments on diagnosis in Sri Lanka or overseas and does not require bills to be submitted. In the event of an Angioplasty, 50% of the sum assured up to a maximum of Rs. 750,000 is paid. For policyholders who have Major Surgery cover, Ceylinco Life will now pay Rs. 20,000 in respect of surgeries for which it previously paid Rs. 15,000, increasing the benefit by 33%. Surgeries for which the company previously paid 15% of the surgery benefit now qualify for 20% of the surgery benefit, while surgeries that earlier qualified for 40% of the benefit will now receive 50%, the company said. Ceylinco Life Major Surgery pays benefits of up to three times the basic sum assured between a minimum of Rs. 100,000 and a maximum of Rs. 1 million during the term of the policy. The initial surgery benefit increases by 10% annually. Under the ‘Family Hospital Cash’ scheme, the company has increased the maximum per day benefit from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 12,500, and the per day benefit for those admitted to Intensive Care Units (ICUs) from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 5,000. Independently rated one of Sri Lanka’s most valuable brands, Ceylinco Life has maintained its leadership of the country’s long term insurance sector from 2004 onwards. The company operates the largest branch network among local life insurance companies, and has won multiple international and local awards for its commitment to the community and success in brand equity building.
