Ceylon Chamber said prospects for investment in Sri Lanka have risen considerably after the termination of the war. Many business ventures have either already initiated projects to expand their businesses or are exploring avenues for business development. The Colombo Stock Market which was dull and stagnant for most of the duration of the war has witnessed a significant upsurge in activity since mid 2009.
In a country which has been traditionally having high interest rates, listing on the stock market provides an avenue to raise capital at a lower cost and facilitate in attracting foreign capital. In addition, it encourages companies to improve management standards and efficiency to satisfy the demands of the stakeholders, the Chamber added.
