Channa appointed Sampath Bank Deputy Chairman

Channa Palan-suriya has been appointed as the Deputy Chairman of Sampath Bank from last week.

Previously he was appointed as a Director with effect from 1 January 2012. Chairman of Sampath Bank is Dhammika Perera.

Palansuriya is the Chairman and Managing Director of Orit Group comprising Orit Apparels Lanka Ltd. and Orit Trading Lanka Ltd., which is the leading garment manufacturing and exporting company. He also serves as Chairman of GC Lanka Clothing Ltd., also involved in the same line of business.

Palansuriya has won many prestigious awards including the Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year 2002 Silver and the National Chamber of Exporters Silver for the Garment Extra Large Category in 2004. He was a Board member of the Board of Investment between 2005 and May 2010, Executive Member of Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF), the Board Member of Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel (SLITA), Executive Member of the Sri Lanka Apparel Sourcing Association (SLASA), Member of the Apparel Exporters Association 200 GFP.

He also held the position of Chairman of Apparel Exporters Association 200 GfP during 2006 to 2008. Palansuriya is an active social worker and holds various positions in many social, religious and public organisation. He is also the Basnayake Nilame of the Hendala Temple.
