Channa de Silva appointed Deputy Chairman of DDFC, MD of George Steuart Finance

Deshodaya Development Finance Company Ltd. in its consolidation drive has appointed Channa de Silva as the Deputy Chairman of DDFC as well as Managing Director of George Steuart Finance PLC, subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Channa de Silva was the former Group Managing Director of the Delmege Group prior to taking responsibilities of DDFC. He was the former Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and also functioned as the Executive Director of the Board of Investments of Sri Lanka (BOI). He has previously served as Board Director in many public sector organisations including the Insurance Board of Sri Lanka (IBSL),Public Enterprise Reform Commission (PERC), Construction Guarantee Fund, National Council for Economic Development, Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board (SLAASMB) and the National payment Gateway of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Colombo and two Master’s Degrees from Harvard University (USA) and Melbourne University (Australia). He has also served as a Teaching Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School. He is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accounts (FCMA-UK) and fellow of the Chartered Certified Accounts (FCCA-UK). He currently serves in the Advisory Boards of ACCA, CISI, Neelan Tiruchelvam Trust and the Alumni Association of the University of Colombo. He also holds Directorships of George Steuart Finance PLC and also serves as Chairman Capital Media Ltd., publisher of Echelon Magazine and as a Director of Falck Med1 Ambulance Service. It is expected that Channa de Silva with his vast exposure and expertise in finance will assists Eastman Narangoda, Chairman of DDFC to drive the company towards strong growth trajectory. DDFC, with its anchorage of a strong Board of Directors, is led by former Seylan Bank Chairman and veteran banker Eastman Narangoda, together with Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne, Dr. Richard Vokes, Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, Shakila Wijewardene, K.L. Gunawardena, Shevon Gooneratne and Masayoshi Yamashita, who constitute the main board. It has also been further strengthened recently with professional banker Ravindra Ranjith joining as CEO from his last position as Chief Operating Officer of Nation Wide Micro Board Ltd. of Papua New Guinea. The micro binance business is a continuation of the economic ideology of Sarvodaya Movement founder Dr. A T Ariyaratne, who has created the Sarvodaya concept that empowers people, whilst “Envisioning a Sustainable Future”. Sarvodaya organisation operates in more than 12,000 villages and currently DDFC has 30 branches and 32 service centres across the island.
