Citi Sri Lanka presents first Distinguished Alumni Award

For the fifth year in a row, Citi Sri Lanka recently held its annual Alumni Event at the Colombo Hilton to bring together former employees of Citi Sri Lanka who have worked in the bank since it began its local operation in 1979. 

The event was attended by about 80 former and current employees of the bank. 

The Citi Alumni Network is a global platform that connects thousands of the bank’s former employees across the globe, enabling alumni to remain in touch with Citi and their ex-colleagues. It is open to all employees who have worked at Citi in Sri Lanka and elsewhere for more than one year.

This year, Citi presented State Enterprise Development Deputy Minister Eran Wickramaratne with the ‘Citi Distinguished Alumni Award’ in the Community Involvement category for his contribution towards the improvement of our country through direct engagement.  

Citi Country Officer, Sri Lanka, Ravin Basnayake, while presenting the award said, “A panel of senior leaders from Citi study the nominations sent from across Citi’s global network to select the winner of this prestigious award and Eran Wickramaratne is one amongst 21 alumni awardees from across Citi businesses around the world.” 

Minister Wickramaratne commenced his banking career by joining Citibank in 1982 and resigned after serving the bank for the fourteenth year in 1996. The banker-turned-politician is presented with this award for his contribution and dedicated service to the nation and its people.

Citi Sri Lanka is also proud of the ongoing contribution it makes in the local community, particularly around its focus to usher economic transformation through financial inclusion and business support services to micro entrepreneurs in rural Sri Lanka and plans to include Alumni in community initiatives that Citi regularly holds to give back to the community we live in.
