The Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) is organising a seminar titled ‘Learn Derivatives & Hedge Accounting’ on 27 November from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Distance Learning Centre SLIDA, 4th Floor, 28/10, Malalasekera Mawatha, Colombo 7.
The resource person will be Senior Director Nirmal Costa from Ernst & Young Sri Lanka Financial Accounting Advisory Services (FAAS), which has extensive experience and in-depth knowledge in applying Sri Lanka Accounting Standards (SFLRS) equivalent to International Financial Reporting Standards in providing IFRS-related consultancy services for financial services organisations.
Costa is a SLFRS Accredited trainer of Ernst & Young and expert in financial instrument accounting and valuation.
This program will focus on: Identifying derivatives and applying the concepts to complex contracts; identifying embedded derivatives; discussions of common derivatives (forwards, futures options, cross currency swaps, interest rate swaps etc.); identifying the characteristics of cash flow, fair value and net investment exposures and determine the appropriate accounting and reporting treatment for these potentially complex transactions; designation of hedge relationship (documentation, effectiveness testing, etc.); uses a series of case studies and real-world examples of derivatives to illustrate key concepts.
This workshop is geared to financial reporting professionals who need to account for derivatives and hedging activities and is involved in formation of derivative transactions and complex finance arrangements. In addition, professionals in other areas such as treasury and risk management who need to understand how risk management activities affect financial statements will benefit from this workshop.
