Continental Insurance appoints Ajit Jayaratne as Independent Director

Continental Insurance Lanka Ltd. (CILL) officially announced the latest addition to its Board of Directors, Ajit Jayaratne as an Independent Director. As a well-reputed figure in the capital market industry of Sri Lanka, Jayaratne on his return from the UK started his career in 1967 at KPMG Ford, Rhodes, Thornton& Co. Thereafter he joined Forbes & Walker Ltd., of which company he was the Chairman at the time of his retirement. He is also a former Chairman of the Colombo Stock Exchange and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. Jayaratne was appointed by former President J.R. Jayewardene as the first Chairman of the Finance Commission under the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. The title of Deshabandu was conferred on him by President R. Premadasa. More recently Jayaratne was Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Singapore and currently serves as a Non-Executive Director of several public companies such as Singer (Sri Lanka) PLC, Overseas Reality (Ceylon) PLC, ACL Cables PLC, Kotagala Plantations PLC, etc. Jayaratne is a graduate in Economics from the University of Southampton and given his Fellowship at the Institute of Chartered Accountants, UK and Sri Lanka, he is a Chartered Accountant by profession. Continental Insurance Lanka Ltd., certified with an A- (lka) Fitch Rating and also accredited with the ISO 9001:2008 for Quality Management Systems, is engaged in General insurance business in Sri Lanka. CILL is a member of the Distilleries Group of Sri Lanka (DCSL Group).
