The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) relocated its Regional Office in Matara to 1st Floor, E.H. Cooray Towers, 24, Anagarika Dharmapala Mawatha, Matara on Monday.
The new location provides its patrons with the same southern hospitality while also providing greater accessibility and convenience to carryout investments in the equity market.
The operation of regional branch offices is part of a strategy to reach out to domestic individual investors by expanding the CSE services throughout the country. The CSE established its first branch in Matara in 1999, followed by Kandy, Kurunegala, Negombo, and Jaffna respectively.
Speaking at the event, Chief Guest CSE Chief Executive Officer Sureka Sellahewa said that from its inception in 1999 the Marata Regional Office has been responsible for generating 18,875 new CDS accounts and Rs. 37 billion in turnover.
“The branch is also ranked as the second largest contributor to turnover when compared with other CSE Regional Offices. The new location will enable us to expand the services provided to investors and students from the region and also enable the implementation of educational and awareness building programs on various aspects of investing,” she added.
The stockbroker firms present at the Matara Branch are: Asha Phillip Securities Ltd., Assestline Securities (Pvt) Ltd., Bartleet Religare Securities (Pvt) Limited, Capital Alliance Securities (Pvt) Ltd., Claridge Stockbrokers (Pvt) Ltd., LOLC Securities Ltd., Nation Lanka Equities (Pvt) Ltd., SC Securities (Pvt) Ltd., and TKS Securities (Pvt) Ltd. Other stockbroker firms operating in Matara are Asia Securities (Pvt) Ltd., Capital Trust Securities (Pvt) Ltd., and Lanka Securities (Pvt) Ltd.
