Dharshana De Silva elected as President of ACIIA

Dharshana De Silva, Immediate Past President of the Institute of Internal Auditors – Sri Lanka (IIASL) and the Group Internal Auditor of Prima Group, was recently elected as the President of the Asian Confederation of Institute of Internal Auditors (ACIIA), at the recently concluded AGM held in Mumbai, making him the first South Asian and youngest President to hold office to date.

ACIIA serves as the only Asia and Pacific body for Internal auditors, serving 18 countries and over 35,000 members in the region, which includes Australia, Azerbaijan, China, Chinese Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Fiji, India, Pakistan, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Papua New Guinea and Sri Lanka. De Silva has been actively involved with ACIIA and served on subcommittees and EXCO before been elected to his current post. The main objective of ACIIA is to advocate and uplift the progression of the internal audit profession in the region. Dharshana is also an eminent speaker in the field of internal audit, gaining exposure and credibility internationally. He has spoken in international conferences and business forums in Australia, Austria, Holland, South Africa, Costa Rica, USA, Malaysia, South Korea and India, including the IIA Global Conference 2011. This year he is invited to speak in Fiji, Taipei and has the distinct honor of being a Key Note Speaker at the IIA Latin American Regional Conference to be held in Panama in October 2013. Dharshana is a CIA, holds an MBA from the University of Leicester, and is an Old Boy of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo. 2015 would be a special year for IIASL as they will be hosting the ‘2015 Asian CAE Leadership Forum’ to be held in Colombo, This would be this first regional conference on Internal Audit of this magnitude to be held in Sri Lanka. The leadership forum will be host to Internal Auditors from 18 countries, which would also pave opportunity for Internal Auditors in Sri Lanka to attend a regional conference right here in Colombo and gain knowledge and networking opportunities from prominent speakers and delegates from the region.
