‘Prathilabha’: SEC to telecast a live television series on Rupavahini

In keeping with its mandate of developing the Sri Lankan capital market and in line with one of its strategic goals to facilitate the widening and broadening of the investor base, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) will be conducting a live television series on Rupavahini with a view to imparting knowledge on the benefits of capital market investments to all segments of society.

The SEC believes that investors should have the basic knowledge in making their investment decisions and the SEC is committed to create awareness on the capital market and thereby ensure that the benefits of investing in the capital market trickle down to the masses.

This live TV series, titled ‘Prathilabha,’ will be telecast every Sunday on Rupavahini from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. commencing 5 June 2011. This will be conducted in Sinhala. The programme will be in the form of studio discussions and interviews and feature prominent professionals from the securities industry.

The series will cover a wide spectrum of topics ranging from investing in the stock market, unit trusts, debt market and regulation as well. The discussions will be conducted in an easy to understand manner to enable first time investors to derive the full benefit of the programme.

The programme will have a dedicated hotline to enable viewers to ask questions and each programme will feature a quiz. The winner of each week’s quiz will be entitled to invest in the stock market to the value of Rs. 50,000. This prize money will be sponsored by the stock broker firms.
