Attempting to select the best men for the job, Cabinet has approved a panel of experts to combat credit card fraud in Sri Lanka.
This panel will be formed under the Payment Devices Frauds Act No.30 of 2006. This act which was passed by Parliament in 2006, has introduced provisions to counteract the high incidence of payment card frauds and for investigation, prosecution and punishment of offenders.
“Provisions under this act provide powers for the Minister in charge of the subject to make regulations with the approval of Parliament, to appoint a panel of experts with qualifications in electronic engineering or software engineering to assist the police in investigations under this Act,” said Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella at the weekly Cabinet press briefing.
The panel of experts will comprise of Hemasiri Karunanayake, Tuan Ershad Halaldeen, Bimal Gunapala, Viraj Mudalige, Nalin Sarath Kumara Wijerathna, K.G.P. Sirikumara and members of the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team (SLCERT).
